Philip Glass

I've developed an inexplicable obsession with Philip Glass. Today I bought the sheet music to Metamorphosis I-V and Madrush. Now all I need is a piano. I'm dying to play. I think I may be getting over this whole indie rock phase and moving on to strictly classical.

This piece kills me:

Remind me to tell you what A.Alice thinks of him... not pretty, also includes a knock knock joke.

She's not the only one. There's a documentary on him that just came out--I'm going to see it at the MFA soon.

For me, his appeal is a personal thing. I don't know if we've ever talked about this, but I rarely enjoy listening to anyone play the piano--anyone other than myself. And you know I'm not good! I enjoy the action of playing and the connection I feel with the instrument. Glass' repetitive structures are perfect for my personal enjoyment of playing. At least, I assume they're perfect. I have yet to play his pieces.

Thanks, anon--that was beautiful. Coincidentally, I think listening to Twi motivated me to listen to Glass yesterday. And to think I went to purchase Gonzalez/Twi tix an hour or so before they sold out. At least I'll have money to buy the album!
